Here is an update to the Vandyl story sent to me by Dale the singer for the band.

"Hey Glen, I can Clear up a few things here and there in the story. The drummer in this picture is named Guy Schryer, and the last drummer we had was Kevin Jones, from Vancouver, also the Guitarist your referring to " Squid" his name is Shaun Sanders, who now plays with Tim Hendry's Elvis tribute show.

And as for this song, wow thats a blast from the past isn't it, I have never heard this live recording, although many do exist, we did have an EP with more songs on, and we did perform them all in our live shows. As a matter of fact there exists a tape of Riggy Zomba's one and only Original recording " living in a dreamworld", its out there somewhere.
Great what your doing here with all your stories and keeping the music in the Soo alive..

And Kevin Jones is now full fledged Police officer, Chris Lloyd is a corporate Lawyer.

No problem Craig. I hope this project enjoys some local success. The scene is definitely stagnant around here but there is a ray of hope with a few new bands launching lately. I always considered "prog rock" the thinking person's music. Most just want to enjoy dance music which is fine, but prog has so many levels that in my own case, I just love to try and figure out how these bands come up these epic songs and how they put their music together.

Yes folks, miracles happen. The 2 saxophones reported stolen have been returned with no damage. Turns out the thieves grabbed the stuff from the vehicle but once seeing what they had during their escape, decided it was of no use to them and dropped them on the ground, and then a nice couple found the saxophones and returned them to Josh. Thankfully there are some honest people still left in this world. ;-)

Thanks Rob. You pretty much cover in detail and if anything, I would only add a point if need be but to cover the same stories is redundant for me. Sometimes I will however make note of something you've written about, like I do on my Freq's Music Planet forum. To be honest, you have more time to dedicate to a broader spectrum of subjects than I can at this point of my life. :-) I'm too busy. :-)
The Barking Eye is a part time thing so I'm cool with you digging into the stories full force. ;-) I am cool if you do stories on my topics too. I have no problem with that in the least. ;-) As long as the story gets out there, I'm happy.

Hey Brian.. Reserve act? That's truly odd. You're either in or out. I don't get it. My biggest beef with this Rotaryfest thing has always been the out of town bands playing. The concept of Rotaryfest to me has always been "local" and I thought it was known as "community days" where for decades is was based on local talent. Now we have out of town bands and that makes no sense to me. I've always considered it a slap in the face to local musicians when they hire out of town bands for Rotary leaving local bands to watch. I guess the proper technique is to start a local band, relocate elsewhere and then book Rotary and then you'll get booked. |O| It's screwy plain and simple.

Rob, the Springsteen tribute band contains 2 guys originally from the Soo.. Serge Tremblay as Bruce and Paolo Erme on drums so in that sense, being Sault based musicians. I'm sure they're making more coin than the Sault bands though. |O| There was a video of the band online somewhere. They sound pretty good and I'm sure it will go over.

Two new bands are confirmed! Amanda Rheaume from Ottawa was today's mystery announcement, she'll be on July 17th at 7:00 PM. Myspace page is http://www.myspace.com/theamandarheaumeband. Plus, SooNews confirms that Toronto's The Wooden Sky are headlining on the 16th at 9:00 PM, which is the muystery slot for Friday. Their MySpace is http://www.myspace.com/thewoodensky. I got a phone call saying that I was on the reserve list. Which was the nice considering that past years I have been ignored. But since the band I'm in was playing main stage they wanted to "give someone else a chance" for second stage. Not sure I get that logic, but oh well.

I must interject some info here. "The Barking Eye" is a blog, not a forum. It is about me, Glen "the Freq" Thomas, writing about music, musicians and graphic artists in the Sault area. This is NOT a forum where anything will be posted by the public. There is a drastic difference. All public posts are screened so not every comment will be posted unlike most forums.

I was asked again about certain drummers for this Showcase topic
by a reader. First, I will not write about "every" local drummer. That is just impossible and not the point of the showcase topic. I will write on drummers that interest me and those that I've actually seen play. I cannot write on anyone I've not actually heard play. Also, the drummers and or musicians that I do write about may not be interesting to you, and I can't help that, but hopefully I will touch on a few you do like. Some of the drummers I've written about also have other interesting qualities outside of music that warrant honourable mention but the fact remains, for this showcase thread, I've had to have heard them. Unfortunately, as life would have it, there are people that won't be written about on here for obvious reasons and here are some of them. 1. In my opinion, they're bad musicians 2. Instigators of bullshit 3. I've not seen them play 4. I don't know who they are. 5. There are drummers I have seen and wish to write about first.

That's the simple take on this. As for Mr. Fabulous, he won't be written about here for my own reasons which involves the 5 points I stated above. You can either accept that OR write about him yourself. ;-) I'm sorry, but that's the way the drum rolls.. ;-)

I suggest you go visit his band's site for the Fabz bio because unfortunately, there are more interesting local players to showcase on "The Barking Eye" than Mr. Fabz. Sorry. ;-)

As for other drummers being mentioned, read the title of the topic.
It's "Local Drummer Showcase #1". #2 and more are coming in the near future. ;-)

You said everything perfect! He was a great guy, I would spend countless hours drinking coffee, and talking about everything under the sun with Robin, he was always smiling and happy, and had time for everyone.
He will always be remembered, and yes sadly missed.

Hi Keith. No, I wasn't in a band called "ostrich party". I do remember that name though. Actually in my very early years, I was in the bands Lyrx and another one called "Children of the Dawn". From there I was in a bunch of bands but the best one was an all original music band called "Thansis Colle" with guitarist Paul Tikkanen. After that I was in tons of bands and toured for years and put out a number of albums with various bands like Rainhorses, Patrick Stewart band, Wishbone, Huckster and more.

You and I jammed at my girlfriends house on Westgate Drive near Korah one time with Dan Boden. We jammed a few other times at some other house but I can't remember if it was Dan's or not. Last time I saw you was in Arnill's when they were on Queen Street in the basement section. My musical tastes always had me in really strange bands that were into prog rock or fusion type bands in my younger days. When you and I jammed, we did a bunch of Rush songs and may have even did 2112 and Spirit of the Radio. No vocals.. just musically. I don't recall what else.
